DPP - Digital Product Passport

A Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a digital image of a physical product that contains information about its origin, composition, reparability and recyclability. It is intended to create transparency, promote the circular economy and enable consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.

The DPP is expected to become mandatory through EU regulations. This will initially affect batteries, textiles and electronic products, with other product groups to follow at a later date. The aim is to make the entire life cycle of a product traceable and ensure compliance with sustainability standards.

The data contained in the DPP can be accessed via a QR code or other digital interfaces. This enables consumers, companies and authorities to view important information about the product, such as the carbon footprint, the materials used or information on proper disposal.

The introduction of the DPP represents a fundamental change in product communication and sustainability management. Companies must be prepared to collect, manage and transparently communicate comprehensive data about their products. This requires new processes and technologies, but also offers the opportunity to stand out from the competition with sustainable products and transparent information.
